"Ever Closer Union" - travelling exhibition

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, the Historical Archives of the European Union has launched a travelling exhibition: Ever Closer Union – The legacy of the Treaties of Rome for Today’s Europe (1957-2017). The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the National News Agency ANSA.

The exhibition is available in 29 languages in digital format and print versions will be on display in various locations throughout Europe and the world. The exhibition will be inaugurated on 16 March 2017 in Rome, Italy, during the festivities relating to the signature date of the Treaties (25 March 1957). It will also be available online.

The exhibition is divided into four sections: A Historical Overview addresses the historic roots of the European Union from the Treaties of Rome to the contemporary Union; Unifying Europe through Economy and Law focuses on the economic and judicial legacy of the Treaties; Social Europe and the European Citizenship focuses on the legacy of the Treaties in the spheres of social policy and democratic participation; EEC/EU International Dimension addresses issues of the European international identity. A closing panel Future Challenges Facing the EU will focus on contemporary and future challenges of the EU.
